The FDA requirement for labeling the quantity of Vitamin D is that the "mcg" be shown, while the International Units (IU) is optional for this nutrient as indicated by the FDA guidance. There is no currently established regulatory restriction on the amount of Vitamin D that may be presented in Dietary Supplements.  Determinations of chronic intake of levels as high as 5,000 IU per day have not shown notable adverse effects.
