Creatine monohydrate is the most-studied performance supplement in existence — and the research has expanded well beyond the gym. The same phosphocreatine system that powers your muscles also powers your brain, and emerging research consistently shows benefits for focus, mental clarity, and cognitive performance — especially at higher daily doses. Ours is 5g of pure monohydrate per scoop, 60 servings, third-party tested, and flexible enough to dose for both muscle and brain.

  • 5,000mg pure creatine monohydrate per scoop — supports normal muscle strength, power output, and recovery
  • Supports normal cognitive function, focus, and mental clarity — the same energy system that fuels your muscles fuels your brain
  • Flexible dosing: 5g daily for muscular performance; up to 10g daily to support normal brain creatine levels
  • 3rd-party tested for purity and potency — what's on the label is what's in the scoop

Is this right for you?

✓ For you if:
  • You lift weights, sprint, or compete in any sport requiring short bursts of power
  • You want to support normal cognitive function, focus, and mental clarity alongside physical training
  • You're a woman — research shows women naturally have lower creatine stores than men and may benefit more from daily supplementation
  • You want the most-researched performance supplement, verified clean, at a price that makes daily use easy
✗ Probably not for you if:
  • You have pre-existing kidney disease (consult your physician first)
  • You're pregnant or nursing (check with your doctor first)
  • You're under 18 (intended for healthy adults only)
  • You're looking for a stimulant effect — creatine has no caffeine

Why creatine works — muscles, brain, and why dose matters

Creatine works by increasing phosphocreatine stores in your tissue — muscle and brain. Phosphocreatine is what your body uses to rapidly regenerate ATP, your primary energy currency during explosive, high-intensity effort. More available phosphocreatine means more capacity to sustain hard reps and short power outputs before fatigue forces you to back off. The research spans decades and thousands of subjects. Monohydrate works. The more exotic and expensive forms have not been shown to outperform it.

The only variable that matters for muscular benefits is consistency. Creatine saturates muscle stores over time — approximately 3–4 weeks of daily intake at the maintenance dose. Daily, every day, is the protocol.

Creatine and the brain. Your brain runs on the same phosphocreatine energy system as your muscles — and the research on cognitive benefits has grown substantially. Studies show creatine can support normal focus, working memory, mental clarity, and cognitive performance under fatigue. The catch: muscles are metabolically “greedy.” They have much higher creatine transporter density, meaning they absorb the majority of supplemental creatine at the standard 5g dose. Research suggests doses closer to 10g per day are needed to meaningfully raise brain creatine levels.

Women and creatine. Women naturally have lower baseline creatine stores than men — approximately 70–80% of male levels. This means women tend to have more room to benefit from supplementation, both for physical performance and cognitive support. Women who train regularly or want cognitive benefits should consider 5–10g daily depending on their goals.

How to use

Take 1–2 scoops (5–10g) mixed with 8–12 oz of water, juice, or your post-workout shake. Timing is flexible — the most important factor is taking it every day.

For muscular performance: 5g (1 scoop) per day is the standard effective dose. Full muscle saturation takes approximately 3–4 weeks of consistent daily use.

For cognitive support: Research suggests up to 10g (2 scoops) per day to meaningfully raise brain creatine levels. Muscles absorb the majority of creatine at lower doses — a higher dose ensures the brain gets enough.

For women: Women have lower baseline creatine stores than men. 5g daily is a solid starting point; 10g daily is worth considering if cognitive support is a priority.

Loading is not required. One container = 60 servings = 60-day supply at 1 scoop/day, or 30-day supply at 2 scoops/day.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to do a loading phase?

No. A loading phase (20g/day for 5–7 days, split into 4 servings) saturates your muscle stores faster, but you reach the same endpoint at 5g/day — it just takes 3–4 weeks instead of one. If you're patient, skip the loading phase. If you want to be at full saturation quickly for a competition or training block, loading works.

When is the best time to take creatine?

The timing debate is largely overblown. Post-workout may have a slight edge based on a few studies, but the real-world difference between pre-workout, post-workout, and with a meal is small. The most important thing is that you take it every day. Find a time that fits your routine and stick to it.

Why is my creatine clumping?

Creatine monohydrate is hygroscopic — it absorbs moisture from the air, which causes clumping. It doesn't affect quality or potency. Use the included scoop (or a dry spoon) and keep the lid sealed when not in use. Store in a cool, dry place. Clumps dissolve completely when mixed with water.

Will creatine make me look bloated or puffy?

Creatine increases intramuscular water — water drawn into the muscle cells themselves, not under the skin. This makes muscles look fuller and slightly larger, which most people training for performance or aesthetics consider a positive. It is not the same as subcutaneous water retention ("puffiness"). If you are experiencing visible bloating, check your total water and sodium intake — that's more likely the driver.

How long until I notice results?

Most people notice increased training performance — more reps, slightly heavier lifts, or less fatigue on hard sets — within 2–4 weeks of consistent daily use. Full muscle saturation takes about 3–4 weeks. Visible changes in muscle size and body composition take longer and depend on your training and nutrition, not creatine alone.

Can I take this with my other MaxWell supplements?

Yes. Creatine pairs well with all MaxWell products. Common stacks: Creatine + Whey (mix together post-workout), Creatine + Omega-3 (both with meals), Creatine + PERFORM pre-workout (take creatine separately post-workout). No known interactions with other MaxWell supplements.

Can creatine help with focus and brain function?

Research increasingly supports creatine’s role in normal cognitive function. Your brain runs on the same phosphocreatine energy system as your muscles, and supplementing creatine supports normal brain energy metabolism, focus, and mental clarity — particularly during periods of mental fatigue or high cognitive demand. Studies suggest that higher doses (around 10g per day) are needed to meaningfully raise brain creatine levels, because muscle tissue absorbs the majority of creatine at the standard 5g dose.

Is creatine a good supplement for women?

Yes — and it’s underused by women. Research shows women naturally have lower baseline creatine stores than men, which means there is more room for supplementation to make a meaningful difference, both for physical performance and cognitive support. Women who train regularly, who experience mental fatigue, or who want to support normal mood and cognitive function should consider creatine as a daily staple.

Is creatine safe long-term?

Yes. Creatine monohydrate is one of the most extensively safety-studied supplements in existence. Long-term studies show no adverse effects on kidney, liver, or general health markers in healthy individuals taking standard doses (3–5g/day). If you have pre-existing kidney conditions, consult your physician before use.

What does third-party testing mean for creatine specifically?

We have our products tested by an independent, accredited third-party laboratory to verify purity and quality. Results are available upon request.
